Estate mechanisation changes the specification. A tractor mounted spreader throwing granules 8 to 12 metres across a harvest path needs a heavier particle, or the fines land in the frond stack and the coarse fraction lands under the palm. This 4 to 6 mm grade is pressed at 11 N minimum, so it holds together through a bulk hopper, a spinning disc and a 12 metre flight. The placement matters more than the rate on oil palm.
